PRETTY TASTY!

Defy convention and be up front with your vegie patch!
PRETTY TASTY!

There's nothing wrong with mixing edibles and ornamentals in your garden. The most important thing is that the soil and sun requirements of the plants are the same. Plus, many ornamentals, such as rosemary and violas, are in fact edibles, while many edibles, such as artichokes or the many colourful varieties of cabbage, kale or chard, are very ornamental. It's a delightful mix and match that will save you heaps at the supermarket!

There’s no need to head out your front door to your supermarket or greengrocer for your daily vegies. Not when you can just head out your front door and take your pick from what’s right in front of you. Forget the notion a front garden is for ornamental plants only. If your back garden is small and shady, then grow sun-loving vegies in your front yard. Check out these ideas for a laundry tub planter and tomato frame.

EASY STEPS TO YOUR TOMATO GROW FRAME

Tomatoes need help as they grow up to keep fruit off the ground to prevent soil-borne diseases.

This does the trick!

Here’s how

STEP 1 In a spot that gets full sun, dig 2 post holes, about 1500mm apart, 200mm wide and 400mm deep.

STEP 2 Set posts in holes with quick-set concrete.

STEP 3 Apply 2 coats paint to posts with brush, leaving to dry after each coat.
