What’s it like being a freelance filmmaker based in Seremban?
It’s an amazing job. Being able to see how your work forms over time is like seeing your own child grow. To me, seeing the results makes me happy. Although the process of filmmaking is tedious and tiring, especially when I drive down to KL often for shoots, I still enjoy it.
What has filmmaking taught you over the years?
This industry taught me a lot. One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned is that I need to be more responsible and aware of others around me. Back then, I was stubborn and had no sense of responsibility, to a point where I came off as immature. That affected my film crew and people hated me for a while. So, I started changing my ways. I became more responsible and became a better team player. Honestly, without them, I don’t think I’ll be where I am now.
Your family owns a business back home. Do you help them out frequently?
Sometimes, yes. But my family doesn’t need me to help. I would simply support them when I’m feeling bored, or when I don’t have any shooting plans that day. My parents are quite supportive in what I do, and they encourage me to explore the world instead of helping them out.
