ALSO KNOWN AS HIDDEN OR MYSTERY WATCHES, THESE UNIQUE TIMEPIECES WERE DESIGNED TO CONCEAL A WATCH DIAL WITHIN JEWELLERY PIECES, ALLOWING THE WEARER TO CHECK THE TIME DISCREETLY WHILE IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS. SOCIETAL PRESSURES AND EXPECTATIONS, PARTICULARLY ON WOMEN OF THAT ERA, INCREASED THE POPULARITY OF THESE ELEGANTLY DISCREET YET FUNCTIONAL TIMEPIECES.
The 1920s and the emergence of the Art Deco style greatly influenced the design of secret watches, apparent in their designs that feature clean lines, geometric shapes and patterns, and streamlined forms. This expressive period marked the resurgence of secret watches in a whole new creative direction.
