Now in its 177th year, Ulysse Nardin continues to be a pioneer in innovative technologies and the use of high-tech materials. One of the few integrated manufactures with in-house expertise to produce its own high-precision components and movements, the trailblazing independent maison changed the face of contemporary watchmaking in 2001 by making horological history with the wildly audacious Freak timepiece that had no dial, hands or crown.
In its unyielding quest for watchmaking perfection, Ulysse Nardin surprises yet again with its visionary spirit by presenting the Blast Free Wheel Marquetry. Boasting more technological innovation and a bolder design, this latest masterpiece heavily features silicon as a material that is not only ultra-technical, but also artistic.
The maison pays homage to the Freak's legendary haute horlogerie complication with this edgy piece, which took the maison's technical department two years of research and development to perfect the flying calibre. The first to incorporate silicon in 2001, the singular and utterly innovative UN-176 Manufacture manual movement with 249 components defied the laws of attraction and the very principles of construction in watchmaking.
