Look, Mum! There they are!' I said, pointing out the car window.
At 10, my family moved to the Hunter Valley. Each day on our way to school we drove past a sanctuary called Donkey Welfare With Heart (DWWH). I loved seeing them in the paddock.
I'd always been obsessed with animals and was raised with dogs, cats and horses.
When I was 14, my mum, Laurelle, took me to an event held by DWWH and the Animal Justice Party.
There we met the DWWH founder, Christine Berry, who has been involved in donkey rescue since 1970.
'Why don't you come and help out in the school holidays?' she suggested.
I started volunteering, grooming, and feeding the herd of 60 donkeys.
I also helped with the sick, injured or elderly donkeys staying in the ICU.
