Hey sweetie! What you doing?' asked Queenie, my pet galah.
'Just unpacking,' I laughed. Following my marriage breakdown, I'd moved into an old workers' cottage with Queenie, my talking pink and grey bird, and my cat, Blackie.
Then I sniffed the air.
"There it is again!' I exclaimed.
It was the aroma of pipe tobacco - and it kept filling the house!
Lying in bed that night, I heard footsteps in the hallway. Blackie, who'd been asleep on my bed, jumped up and started hissing and spitting.
'Who's that?' I yelled, rushing out, but the hall was empty.
One day I found the stuffed toys I kept on the bed in the spare room all over the floor.
'Who did that?' I cried.
Blackie was kept outside during the day so it wasn't her doing.
Some friends came over for lunch. We were sitting at the table when my mate Simon pointed to the kitchen.
'Look at that!' he said.
