10 HIGHEST GROSSING FILMS OF ALL TIME

It’s been over 13 years since the highestgrossing movie of all time has had a serious challenge on its hands but with the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, the top-grossing movie of all time is in serious danger of being knocked off its decade long perch.

That movie of course is Avatar. So it’s crazy to think that the only serious challenger to the highest-grossing movie ever is its sequel. What’s even crazier is that director James Cameron will have taken the helm of three out of the top five movies within the next few months. So with that in mind we’ve decided to take a look at what the top ten highest-grossing films of all time are and exactly how much they made. As of the time of writing Avatar: The Way of Water was climbing the charts fast and will probably be number one by the time you read this, so for consistency we have decided to ignore Avatar: The Way of Water for now. 

#1 - Avatar (2009)

When celebrated director James Cameron unleashed Avatar onto the world it was an instant smash hit, breaking records left right and center. Avatar was a visual feast for the eyes, incorporating 3D technology the world has never seen before. Although the story was below average and the themes watered down, the Na’vi struck a chord with millions across the world and cemented the visual spectacle as the highest-grossing film of all time. Ironically in 2009, Cameron’s other smash hit Titanic was the highest-grossing film at the time.
