ADULT HOCKEY BEER LEAGUES!

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

A recent survey by Harris Polls in the United States ranked hockey as the 6th most popular sport, well behind number 1, pro football. And one thing about sports in general: Chicks dig athletes, even the non-professional ones!

And while hockey will never reach soccer worldwide for the most popular in the world (not just country), hockey has actually climbed the rankings in the past few decades. Back in 1985, pro football was 24 percent, baseball 23 percent, then college football and college basketball 10 percent each. Hockey was tied in 11th at two percent, also behind pro basketball, auto racing, golf, tennis, bowling and horse racing. Pro football has been climbing since then, mostly at the expense of baseball and college basketball. Hockey has never received more than five percent of the popular vote and has been at least four percent since 2004.

That in itself though can be due to the popularity of adult “men’s leagues” around the world that have grown to number 1 in popularity among sports for non-professional men to play. “Beer Leagues” as they are called, are when a group of adults gather together on a week night - away from life’s distractions - and play each other in organized games. The games usually end and the group of guys usually head to a parking lot to drink some beers to cool off before heading back to their everyday lives, only to return the following week. 

In Nashville, TN, USA, one beer hockey league has a team that was influenced by the famous Emilio Estevez Mighty Duck films, and has taken their entire city and now nation by storm.
