RAJASTHAN URBAN JOB CARD HOLDERS GET 100 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT
THE WEEK India|October 02, 2022
In his relentless efforts to ensure social security of every person of his state, Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot, Government of Rajasthan, launched an historic initiative named Indira Gandhi Shehari Rojgar Yojana beginning September 9, 2022 at Jaipur.
RAJASTHAN URBAN JOB CARD HOLDERS GET 100 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT

This scheme would guarantee employment to the teeming urban youth population with 100 days employment to a job cardholder family. So far, more than 2 lakh job cardholders, 9500 works have been identified under the employment scheme, which is said to be the country's biggest so far.

The Seed of an Idea

Employment for the urban youth remains one of the most challenging social issues faced by the state governments across the country. Covid pandemic further aggravated the situation of employment following the economic slow-down impacting one and all. To thwart any threat to social security, the state government led by CM Ashok Gehlot acted swiftly to provide maximum employment opportunities to the people of the state stating, "Every person should get employment and no needy, helpless or poor person should remain deprived of his/her livelihood. Employment should be available for people who lost their livelihood during Covid to lead their lives." In this direction, the Chief Minister took an important decision to announce the Indira Gandhi Shehari Rojgar Guarantee Yojana (Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme) in this year's budget. The employment scheme has been launched with the objective to provide employment in urban areas and is said to be country's biggest initiative so far.
