GAFFER GASH TO GET TOUGH

The Peterborough Sports co-boss was left sweating after a drastic run of one point from seven outings over Easter unexpectedly plunged his side into the mire.

A third season at Step 2 was eventually secured with relative ease, but Gash – who was appointed joint-manager in February 2023 alongside former Manchester United goalkeeper Luke Steele – says he learned some tough lessons along the way.

“The truth is, we got sucked into a relegation battle that we shouldn’t have been anywhere near, really,” says the former Cambridge, York and Barnet striker.

“And that was a learning curve for me and Luke. Certain players – and I’m not going into personal stuff – didn’t want to fight for it.

“What we learned from that is that you can’t try to be nice and try to get the best out of people and let the same thing happen week after week. We’ve got to be more ruthless. We’ve got to demand more.

“Okay, it’s not your main job. We understand that. But you get paid for it, and you get paid well. So we will expect certain things.
