JOE CREATES HISTORY AS SAINTS KICK OFF IN STYLE

JOE Barker started where he left off with the double that fired FC St Helens to a little piece of history.

The Division One North champions cruised to a 3-0 opening day victory over Abbey Hey themselves promoted from Division One South last term - having dominated the club's first encounter at Step 5.

St Helens probed from the outset and got a helping hand after half an hour when Jordan Barnett was sin-binned for the visitors.

Barker soon got the opener eight minutes later, applying an emphatic finish to hand the hosts a warranted lead and his second came pretty quickly, stooping to nod past keeper Ellis Allen in the 41st minute.
