In a mind-boggling 50-year association at Staines Town, the ingenious club secretary could recite any score, any scorer or attendance of any game at the drop of a hat.
He’d even be able to tell you the colour of the referee’s underpants on any particular day should such information ever be requested. He’s every journalist’s dream.
But Parsons’ life – along with those of his fellow hardy Swans’ supporters – came crashing down in March 2022 when the Middlesex club suspended all it’s football operations following a messy fallout with investment managers Downing LLP, who acquired the club at their Wheatsheaf Park home in 2008.
Suddenly, the club’s proud history had ground to a halt and Parsons was spending Saturday afternoons in front of the TV rather than follow the fortunes of his one true passion, updating his records along the way.
Without a club to call their own, fans got together to discuss their options, including founding a phoenix club. But, in the end they voted against it, agreeing it will be too expensive to rent another ground while starting at the lowest level.
At the same time, however, members of the Staines Town Supporters Club had entered into talks with local Step 7 club Staines Lammas and on July 1, 2022 a new club for the town was born.
