3 DEAD IN ROAD ACCIDENT - SHAMELESS CITIZENS BEFORE MUTE POLICE

Booze-carrying Fortuner rams into Thar at a speed of 210 kmph on SP Ring Road; later, citizens make merry drinking beer from scattered cans in front of cops who fail to notice

A Fortuner speeding at 210 kmph rammed into a Thar near Vakil Saheb Bridge in Bopal on SP Ring Road, killing three people on the spot and seriously injuring one during the wee hours of Monday. It was not just the gruesome accident that made the incident a shocking one.

The Fortuner had 400 bottles of liquor and about 50 beer tins in it which scattered after the impact. Some onlookers rushed to the spot, grabbed the beer tins and sipped it, right in front of the cops, who seemed to be taking no notice of it.

Police said Ajit Kathi of Viramgam was driving in his Thar along with his friend Manish Bhatt when he took a U-turn near the Rajpath T junction. A speeding Fortuner, which was coming from the Gandhinagar side of the road, rammed into the Thar killing Kathi and Bhatt on the spot. Kathi owns a hotel in Viramgam while Bhatt is a real estate agent.
