Muscle up to beat obesity: If above 40, better hurry

Docs, obesity experts say fat loss is more important than weight loss to protect muscles that help keep fat in control

At a time when obesity is turning out to be a pandemic in the country with Gujarat ranking third in India in obesity, experts say building muscles holds the answer to many of our fat problems.

It should be noted that these days many doctors and health and fitness experts are using Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) and Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) injectable hormones as they help with weight loss and managing blood glucose levels.

However, they say that using these measures as part of a weight loss programme sans exercise will result in loss of muscles which will only lead to further gain in fat in the long run.
