The glitz and glamour of sports leagues like the IPL and Pro Kabaddi League may suggest a growing interest in sports careers across India. However, in Gujarat, the state vying to host the 2036 Olympics, the youth seem to be giving sports management courses the cold shoulder.

Admission statistics from state and private universities paint a grim picture of young people's apathy towards sports management as a career. This lukewarm response comes as a surprise, considering Gujarat's Olympic aspirations.

SSGU struggles to fill seats

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project, Swarnim Gujarat Sports University (SGSU), offers a range of sports management programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate, postgraduate diploma, research, and teacher training courses.
