Scammers forge letters to unfreeze bank accounts

One accused was told that Guj police were unfreezing the accounts of users who were unaware of fraudulent activities in their accounts

In a move that brought relief to those who were tricked into lending their bank accounts for fraudulent activities, the state police recently unfroze 230,098 bank accounts holding a total of Rs 444.56 crores. However, criminals always seem to be one step ahead.

This time, fraudsters attempted to forge a fake letter using the cybercrime cell's letterhead and a fake signature of a police official to unfreeze a bank account. Their plan was almost successful, but a vigilant bank manager spotted the forgery and alerted the police. Two suspects, Krushnandan Patel and Ajaykumar Parmar, both self-proclaimed reporters, have been apprehended.
