BJP won the Vav Assembly seat as party candidate Swarupji Thakor defeated rival Congress candidate Gulabsinh Rajput by a mere margin of 2,442 votes in the bypoll. Though initial rounds gave Rajput a winning edge, the last two rounds proved decisive and Thakor won the seat by less than 2,500 votes, securing 92,176 votes. Rajput received 89,734 votes.
