Wall Street shifts to T+1 after a century
Business Standard|May 29, 2024
US trading moved to a shorter settlement on Tuesday, which regulators hope will reduce risk and improve efficiency in the world's largest financial market but may temporarily lead to a rise in transaction failure for investors.

What is settlement?

A trade settlement occurs when the buyer receives the security and the seller is paid. This final st handled by the Deposit Trust Company, a subsid iary of the Depository and Clearing Trust Corporation.

What does fast settlements mean for the markets?

Regulators hope a faster s tlement process will reduce risk and improve efficiency in the world's largest markets, as investors will get their money and securities sooner. Currently, as trades take two days to conclude, there can be hiccups before investors receive their money or securities.

How is it going to be implemented?

Don't see any reason to scale back our domestic targets

India's current climate policies are projected to reduce CO2 emissions by almost 4 billion tonnes between 2020 and 2030. ARUNABHA GHOSH, CEO of the Council for Energy Environment and Water, a leading global think tank based out of New Delhi, speaks to S Dinakar in a video interview on climate-related issues ahead of the annual UN climate summit COP29, which starts in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, on November 11.
