He left Wembley on Tuesday night surrounded by his proud family and clutching the first international man-of-the-match accolade of what could be many.
Southgate must name his final squad for the Euros on June 8 and the calls for him to take Mainoo are growing with every game the youngster plays.
It is to such a degree that most pundits believe Mainoo has to start in midfield when England open their Euros campaign against Serbia in Germany on June 16.
