Dr Thomas Kwan allegedly feared losing out on an inheritance. It was claimed he planned to murder Patrick O'Hara with pesticide while pretending that it was a Covid booster shot.
The prosecution said the then-partner at a Sunderland surgery was seen on CCTV at a Newcastle hotel. He left in a hat, tinted glasses, gloves and mask and walked to his mother's house where she did not recognise him as he gave the jab. He also took her blood pressure, the court heard.
Mr O'Hara, 71, was immediately seriously ill with pain in his arm but he survived after surgeons cut away sections of poisoned flesh.
