FAB RORY WEATHERS THE STORM

A LOT has happened in the life of Rory McIlroy in the past week.

But one thing remains the same from seven days ago - he will have to chase down Xander Schauffele over the next three rounds to win the title here in Kentucky just like he did in North Carolina last week.

The American Ryder Cup star led after the first three rounds at the Wells Fargo Championship before McIlroy trampled all over him on Sunday with a stunning 65 to win by five shots.

Yesterday at the US PGA, Schauffele shot a course record at Valhalla to become the first man in history to shoot two 62s in Majors. He made nine birdies in his bogey-free round.

Mcllroy, who filed for divorce from his wife Erica on Monday, described his game "scrappy" but still shot a 66 to keep alive his bid to win his first Major for nearly 10 years.

The world No.2 is bidding to emulate his feat of winning here in 2014 with a third straight victory.

A decade ago, he also opened with a 66 to sit as Callama one shot off the lead shared by Lee Westwood in a tournament hit by heavy rain during the final round.
