Charismatic Matildas boss turns up the mind games in bid to sabotage Wiegman

MENTAL AS ANYTHING

AUSTRALIA Gustavsson head coach Tony fixed Sarina Wiegman firmly in his sights as he took off the gloves ahead of the semi-final.

The charming Swede smiled as he delivered a string of psychological blows against the Lionesses and their head coach in a tour de force Down Under.

Gustavsson used every trick in the book to undermine his opposite number in a show that was designed to put the European champions on the back foot.

The 50-year-old insisted that England were favourites and said he had successfully targeted two of the Lionesses during a 2-0 friendly victory at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium in April.

He added that while Wiegman had used two systems successfully, the Matildas were comfortable in three and then reminded his opposite number of his past successes against her.

Finishing off, he claimed the "massive support" of the Australian public could determine the outcome and outlined his belief that the Matildas were on a "mission" to deliver the World Cup.
