Russian offensive was 'wake-up call' for allies

Grant Shapps says the onslaught should act as a "wake-up call" for Western allies to speed up getting help to the war-stricken nation.

He told world leaders it was a "lot cheaper" to deter Vladimir Putin's invaders than "allow him to win".

It came after Moscow intensified attacks in one of the most significant ground assaults since its full-scale invasion of began in February 2022.

Ukraine Thousands have fled towards Kharkiv, the country's second largest city, with children attending underground schools there. On Saturday, Russia shelled the area's city of Vovchansk.

Mr Shapps, below, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I really do feel the world was caught napping on this one.
