In the same month retailers were revealed to have overcharged drivers by £1.6billion last year, RAC data shows average petrol and diesel prices refused to budge downwards in July at 144.76p and 149.8p per litre.
Despite experts saying wholesale prices merited pump price cuts, hard-pressed drivers are still paying 5p more than they should for petrol and 8p too much for diesel.
This translates to nearly £3 a tank for petrol and £4.40 for diesel.
