VICE President-elect JD Vance has risked the wrath of boss Donald Trump after saying violent Capitol rioters should not be pardoned.
The president-elect promised near-blanket reprieves on his first day back in the White House for those found guilty over the riots on January 6, 2021.
But Vance said: "If you committed violence on that day, obviously you shouldn't be pardoned."
He later said there was "a bit of a grey area" in some cases.
Trump said he would issue pardons to rioters on day one of his second presidency, which begins on Monday after he and Vance are sworn in.
