ANOTHER FYNE MESS

SHOCKING images of a sewage pipe spewing salmon farm waste into an idyllic river near Loch Fyne have sparked a major environmental probe.

The Daily Record obtained video footage showing huge volumes of effluent – including sludge from pellets used to feed caged salmon – being discharged into the Kinglas Water in Argyll.

Underwater filming shows how river water near the pipe had turned a murky brown.

Meanwhile, the riverbed of the Kinglas Water – which flows directly into Loch Fyne, famous for its seafood – was caked in brown mush from leftover feed, with wild baby fish swimming nearby.

Campaigner Don Staniford, who discovered the scene on August 6, has now filed a pollution complaint into the incident, triggering an investigation by Scotland's environment watchdog, Sepa.

In the complaint report of August 7, seen by the Record, the wildlife campaigner told how he’d found “feed pellets on the riverbed below the effluent pipe”.
