Two years ago, at the Scottish Open, the two-time BMW PGA champion launched a blistering attack on those players who had turned their backs on the regular tours to join Greg Norman's breakaway circuit.

The American Open champion runner-up to Xander Schauffele at Troon in July - was reacting to the call from certain rebels to be allowed to compete in regular events.

Horschel said then: "I believe they made their bed. They decided to go to a tour and they should go play that tour. They shouldn't be coming back to play the DP World Tour or the PGA Tour.

"They keep talking about how the PGA Tour does not listen to them but there are a lot of guys that are hypocrites not telling the truth and lying about some things

"To say they wanted to also support the DP World or PGA Tour going forward, while playing the LIV Tour, is completely asinine." But Horschel, who added at the time that the rebels had broken all the rules, has now changed his tune.

He said yesterday: "Looking at the game, the divide we've created, I could never have imagined such disinterest on the part of the fans.
