CANCER CASES SET TO ROCKET BY 22%

THE number of people diagnosed with cancer is predicted to rise by almost a quarter in less than 20 years.

The average figure for cancer cases could increase from more than 34,500 in 2019-2021 to in excess of 42,000 in 2038-2040, a report claims.

Public Health Scotland ( P H S ) used models developed by charity Cancer Research UK and found cases of all forms of the disease – excluding non-melanoma skin cancer – were set to rise by 22 per cent. In a report, PHS said: “This rise is mainly due to the population growing older.”
