A SCOTS couple told how everyone around them was in a state of panic after their dream honeymoon on blazehit Rhodes ended up like a “disaster movie”.
When Luna and Daniel Rolfe arrived in Rhodes they found hundreds of people crowded outside the airport, but it was only when they boarded their Tui transfer coach that they real ised something was seriously wrong.
Luna said: “ Two other passengers said they were getting off because the Greek government had issued a warning and the bus was headed toward the fires. The family behind us who were going to the same hotel then told us it was now surrounded by smoke and we were going to an evacuation centre.
“Everyone started to panic. The kids on the bus all started crying because they were all freaked out. The two of us were gobsmacked and really panicked.”
Luna and Daniel , from Glasgow, should have been on a luxury £4000 break to the Greek island after tying the knot two weeks ago. But the pair were instead forced to bed down on the floor of a school after arriving to scenes of chaos as hundreds of desperate tourists scrambled to escape wildfires.
Last night Luna, 24, said she and Daniel, 25, feel abandoned by their tour operator and don't know when they will make it home to Scotland.
She told the Record: "Wed never been on a holiday like this before and it was supposed to be the holiday of a lifetime - the whole shebang.
"We've tried to stay upbeat about it but it does feel like a disaster movie with everything that has gone wrong. We understand it’s a crazy situation and everyone is trying to do the best they can but we feel very much stuck here, like we’ve been left without very much information at all.”
