Tacky souvenirs on the way out for travellers

IT'S hasta la vista sombreros, drop the stuffed donkeys and freeze out the fridge magnets.

Souvenirs to remind ourselves - and others - of fantastic holidays seem to be falling out of favour.

The appeal of that charming ornament, hilarious T-shirt and delicious drink faded faster than a tan, but it did not matter.

Yet, now 58 per cent of holidaymakers buy fewer souvenirs from abroad due to tighter budgets and environmental concerns, a survey by travel body ABTA found.

A third prefer buying other things.

The same number avoided getting items they did not need.
