BUFFY star Sarah Michelle Gellar has swapped vampires for werewolves and revealed: “If people think that I can still save the world and kick butt, I’m OK with that.”
Twenty years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer finished, mother-of-two Sarah, 45, is back following a nine-year career break in a supernatural TV series Wolf Pack, which streams on Paramount +.
Running from 1997 to 2003, Buffy was a phenomenon – not only did it make a young female the lead rather than the love interest or support to the main man, it introduced a musical episode and even inspired Russell T Davies to revive Doctor Who in 2005.
Sarah said: “I have always been proud of the show and I still am. I’ve watched it with my kids. They love it and I’m proud of its legacy. I was really fortunate to get Buffy. She changed my life. A lot of times when you start a show at a young age you get stuck but I didn’t have that.
“Buffy grew. She went to college and then essentially she became a mother. She was a mother to all the slayers.
“I never felt like I was trapped because I got to do so much. And then I got to play all these other characters.
“How many times in any actor’s life do you get to be a part of something that has a legacy like Buffy? And if people think that I can still save the world and kick butt, I’m OK with that!”
Sarah, who has been acting since she was five, was 17 when she shot the pilot for Buffy.
