A SCOTTISH golf fan has told how he became an instant celeb after his Ryder Cup lake jump celebration went viral - but his pals chickened out.
The hilarious moment retired teacher John Burleigh took a jubilant running leap into the water on the 16th hole in Rome as Europe regained the trophy from the US on Sunday has racked up millions of views online.
The 70-year-old, dubbed Colonel Sanders after the clip swept social media, told the Record how his mates were supposed to join him in the stunt but let him go solo at the last moment.
And John was then forced to take a soggy moped ride to collect his wife from the airport where he was swamped with requests for selfies.
The new online star from Greenock said: "I was overcome with excitement and sunstroke I think. It was boiling hot and I was thinking about how I could cool down after all of this.
"One of the guys said, 'If you're going to do it John, do it now'.
"I thought one or two of us were going to do it but it turned out just to be me - so I just took the plunge. I've been told there's 3.5million hits on it.
Tommy Fleetwood clinched the trophy for the hosts on the 16th hole.
