PROTEST BLOCKS 2 OIL TERMINALS

ECO-ACTIVISTS yesterday claimed they had halted operations at two of Scotland's major oil terminals.

A total of 11 protesters from action group This is Rigged were arrested after they blocked gates, occupied pipework and climbed on to tankers so the vehicles couldn't leave the Ineos plant in Grangemouth and Nustar oil depot at Rothesay Dock, Clydebank.

Activists were later removed in an operation where cops used climbing gear to bring protesters down before taking them away in police vans.

The massive petrochemical site in Grangemouth, near Falkirk, supplies two-thirds of petrol to Scotland's forecourts.

During the occupation", which began at 5.30am, the anti-fossil fuels protest group insisted they had blocked fuel supplies from the site.

Ineos claimed production at the site was unaffected, although a tanker terminal was shut as a precaution.
