Labour leader calls Murrell arrest 'extremely serious' and hopes Nats will provide answers once the police investigation is complete

ANAS Sarwar said yesterday there are "big questions" to be asked of the SNP following the arrest of Peter Murrell.

The Scottish Labour leader spoke out after Nicola Sturgeon's husband was arrested as part of an investigation into the Nationalists' finances.

Speaking on a prearranged visit to the Parkhead Youth Project, in Glasgow's east end, Sarwar claimed the situation was "extremely serious" and the police should be allowed to "do their jobs".

The Glasgow MSP said: "There are big questions to be asked of both Humza Yousaf and Nicola Sturgeon and, in the fullness of time, I hope those questions are asked.

Murrell was arrested as a result of a long-running police investigation into the spending of about £600,000 which was earmarked for Scottish independence campaigning.

The community youth club visited by the Labour leader is just four miles from Murrell and Sturgeon's detached house in Glasgow which police officers raided before 9am.

And it lies a similar distance from Rutherglen, where a potential by-election could be called in the coming months after Westminster G
