TRADITION DITCHED FOR PEOPLE'S PARTY CORONATION TREAT

A GRANDFATHER who thought he was the victim of a scam after being told he was receiving a British Empire Medal BEM) has now been invited to the King's coronation.

It comes after King Charles ditched centuries of tradition to create a Peoples Coronation” to celebrate the start of his reign.

Organisers said the King insisted on celebrating this momentous event with the people who have made a difference in their communities and make Britain what it is today”.

His Majesty has invited 850 community heroes and representatives of charities to ceremonies, instead of politicians and nobility.

John Anderson, 72, from Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire, received his medal in 2020 in recognition of his community work throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

John will now be attending the coronation on May 6 and said he felt privileged” to receive the invitation.
