Workers in limbo over refinery closure date

WORKERS at the only oil refinery in Scotland face months of uncertainty after bosses refused to confirm when it will close.

Petroineos announced last month it would end its refining operations at Grangemouth and transform part of the vast industrial site into an oil import terminal.

The energy giant expects the transition period to last 18 months but bosses would not commit yesterday to an expected shutdown in spring 2025.

The refinery employs 500 staff but just 100 are expected to be required at the replacement terminal, while a further 50 could be retained to work on decommissioning the site.
