Dems choose Harris in formal nomination vote | Tim Walz will be running mate in her campaign

KAMALA Harris is leading Donald Trump in the polls after securing the Democratic presidential nomination.

The former California senator, 59, officially became the first woman of colour to lead a major party ticket after the Democrats announced that 99 per cent of delegates some 4600 - had voted for her during a five-day ballot.

Election analyst Nate Silver's national poll aggregate now shows her leading Republican nominee Trump at 45.5 per cent to 44.1 per cent.

When President Joe Biden withdrew from the contest on July 21, Trump had a 45.2 per cent to 41.2 per cent lead.
