FRANKIE DETTORI has set his sights on a new goal – victory in the Kentucky Derby – after performing a sensational U-turn on his plans for retirement.
Last December, before embarking on a successful stint competing in California, the 52-year-old announced that 2023 would be the final year of his stellar career in the saddle.
But on the back of a season that has seen the Italian bag seven Group One triumphs in Europe, including two British Classics, partner his 81st winner at Royal Ascot and capture big pots in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, Dettori has had a change of heart.
The world’s most famous jockey, accompanied by his wife Catherine, will leave Britain for Los Angeles the week before Christmas to continue his career in America.
