Donald Trump handily won Michigan's Republican primary, bringing closer a November rematch between the former president and Mr Biden.
But the results offered warning signs to Mr Trump as well, underscoring his relative weakness among suburban and college-educated voters.
Mr Biden, who as the sitting president has no meaningful challengers for the Democratic nomination, won with 81 per cent of the primary vote while Mr Trump beat Republican rival Nikki Haley by just over 68 per cent to 26.5 per cent.
