GREAT Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith was carrying the nation's Olympic gold medal hopes today as he prepared to compete in the 400m men's final in Paris.
The 29-year-old from Wolverhampton has overcome injuries to become one of the world's best in his distance, winning silver in the World Championships last year.
He is a leading favourite to claim Team GB's second athletics gold in front of 80,000 people at the Stade de France in tonight's showpiece final, but faces stiff competition from US star Quincy Hall and Grenada's Kirani James.
