A TORY leadership contender today warned the party must “not forget” the centre ground voters who the party lost to the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride was the favourite to be knocked out of the contest when the five Conservative leadership hopefuls were whittled down to four later today.

But he insisted he was “quietly confident” about his chances to replace Rishi Sunak as he suggested the party should not only seek to woo back the Right-wing voters it lost to Reform at the general election.
