A STRIKE by Ukraine destroyed a Russian ammunition train and likely damaged a vital supply route for Vladimir Putin's forces, UK defence chiefs said today as Kyiv stepped up its fightback in the south of the country.
Ukraine said the 40-car train was hit on Sunday killing around 80 Russian soldiers and injuring around 200.
The UK Ministry of Defence said today in an intelligence briefing that as a result the rail link connecting Russian-occupied Kherson with Crimea was highly unlikely to be operational.
The MoD said President Putin's troops were likely to repair the railway line but it would remain "a vulnerability for Russian forces and their logistical resupply route" from Crimea - which was invaded and annexed in 2014.
