Yedlin is confident USA’s young stars will earn their stripes

IT IS hard to imagine a starker difference between two World Cups than this one, the first ever to be held in one city, and the next, which will be shared by three countries and an entire continent.

Qatar's opening-night flop as hosts came 24 hours before the USA-where the bulk of the next tournament will be held - start a campaign being billed as a springboard for 2026, when expectations from a nation obsessed with sporting success will be sky high.

The US go into tonight's opener against Wales with an eye on the future and the second-youngest squad in the tournament, 14 of whom are aged 24 or under, with full-back DeAndre Yedlin the only survivor from the country's last World Cup appearance eight years ago.
