AMID A SCHISM between the Central government and opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday nudged states to work closely with the Centre to make India a developed nation by 2047 through long-term planning, coordinated infrastructure development and observing fiscal discipline.
"Niti Aayog, finance ministry, all ministries and states will be working towards certain goals to make India a developed nation," Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said after the Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting. The eighth meeting of the Council chaired by Modi was attended by chief ministers and lieutenant governors of 19 states and six UTs, while 11 state CMS, including from West Bengal and Bihar, skipped the meet. Modi said Niti Aayog can play a critical role in helping states to develop their strategies for the next 25 years and align it with the national development agenda.
"I think the prospects are good to be a developed nation by 2047. There is a need to work harder, maintain the tempo and probably accelerate it," Subrahmanyam said.
