Buoyant IT drives Nifty past 22K, Sensex 73K

The BSE benchmark zoomed 759.49 points or 1.05% to a closing high of 73,327.94, having scaled a lifetime high of 73,402.16 intra-day. The index has gained last 1,000 points in just 13 sessions. Nifty, too, surged 202.90 points or 0.93% to a closing high of 22,097.45, after touching a lifetime high of 22,115.55 during the session. The last 1,000-point rally in the broader index was scaled in 25 sessions.

Wipro's shares rose 13.7% intraday to their highest since April 2022 while HCL Tech shares rose over 5% to a record high powering the 10-member Nifty IT index to a nearly two-year high. Nine out of the ten constituents in the Nifty IT packhit 52-week highs during the sessiom. "The IT sector has led the Nifty rally this month, and has spiked significantly in the last two sessions because of decent results backed by cheaper valuations. However, the recent upswing warrants a certain degree of caution as, many times, such sharp rallies do not sustain," said Pranav Haridasan, MD & CEO, Axis Securities.
