The car market leader is building a ₹18,000-crore, one-million units-a-year greenfield car plant in Haryana's Kharkhoda. It is also in the process of selecting a site for its fifth manufacturing location, adding capacity for another one million units a year.
This will take its total production capacity to 4.25 million units per-year, excluding that controlled by Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which produces some units for Maruti Suzuki.
"We are proposing to reorganise Maruti Suzuki," chairman RC Bhargava said, adding, "It took us 40 years to reach two million (per year capacity) and now we are proposing to add a similar capacity over the next eight years. It is going to be a very uncertain and challenging era."
