SAD likely to file reply before Takht after Dec 27
Hindustan Times Amritsar|December 22, 2024
A day before the deadline for accepting Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation from the post of president by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee in accordance with the Akal Takht directions was to end, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders held a closed-door meeting with Akal Takht jathedar Raghbir Singh and jathedar Sultan Singh of the Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at the historic Sri Charan Kanwal Sahib gurdwara in Machhiwara on Saturday.

LUDHIANA:

Though there was no official word on whether the party sought more time to file reply, a senior SAD leader, requesting anonymity, said the party would file its reply to the Akal Takht jathedar after the conclusion of the Shaheedi Jor Mela on December 27.

The SAD has been in a fix over accepting Sukhbir's resignation and reorganising the party as per Akal Takht's edict, fearing that it could land in a legal tangle with the Election Commission of India as a few leaders say such a move can be construed as taking directions from a religious body and thus violating the provisions of the Representation of the People Act of 1950.
