JAIPUR: After a DNA profiling, three of the 14 people who were killed in the LPG tanker accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday, have been identified, said officials concerned to the matter, adding that the fourth body remained unidentified as the person was not claimed by anyone.

Two more of the injured died on Saturday as 27 others, including seven on ventilator support, continue to be under treatment at SMS hospital.

The toll on Friday was mistakenly concluded as 12 instead of 11 because one body was split in two parts, police said, adding that the forensic science laboratory in its report helped identify the body. As of Saturday evening, there were four unidentified bodies in the mortuary.

DCP Jaipur (West) Amit Kumar Budaniya said: "The bodies are not in a condition to be identified by the families that have come forward. DNA profiling is the only way for us now to trace them."

"Police collected DNA samples from unidentified victims and sent them to the FSL. So far, we could identify three people. However, nobody has yet claimed the fourth body which was safely kept at the mortuary of the SMS hospital," he added.

The three bodies were identified were of a retired IAS officer Karni Singh Rathore, Raebareli-based Sanjesh Yadav, who was the driver of the LPG tanker, and also one was of a Kanpur-based person Pradeep Kumar, the DCP said.

Dr Sushil Bhati, SMS hospital superintendent, described the ongoing medical crisis: "Of the total patients, three are still on ventilators while the condition of the six to seven people are also not good."

According to a security camera footage, the accident took place when a Jaipur-bound LPG tanker from Ajmer attempted a U-turn toward Agra Road and was hit by a truck from behind, leading to a gas leak that then turned into the fireball.
