Memorial for Bal Thackeray ready; ceremony likely on his birthday
Hindustan Times Jammu|December 27, 2024
Construction for the first phase of the Bal Thackeray Memorial was completed on Tuesday, and a ceremony dedicating the property to the late Shiv Sena founder is expected to be held on January 23, his birth anniversary, according to an official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Ateeq Shaikh

MUMBAI:

The ceremony could see the heads of both factions of the Shiv Sena--Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde--sharing a stage for the first time since the party's split in June 2022.

Born on January 23, 1926 in Pune, Bal Thackeray passed away on November 12, 2012. The idea to have a memorial in his name was mooted subsequently.

The search for a suitable location began; eventually, a bungalow at Dadar's Shivaji Park that was traditionally occupied by Mumbai's mayors was taken over in early 2017. The MMRDA was made the implementing agency, while Tata Projects was appointed in March 2021 to execute the project.
