SC to hear terror convict's plea against IS ban in Jan
Hindustan Times Noida|December 31, 2024
The Supreme Court will hear next month a petition filed by a terror convict challenging the declaration of the Islamic State (IS) and all its manifestations as banned terrorist outfits.

NEW DELHI: The court also appointed former Delhi high court judge Mukta Gupta to assist in the matter.

Saquib Abdul Hamid Nachan, convicted in a case of three bomb blasts in Mumbai, had approached the apex court, seeking quashing of two government notifications which declared IS and others as terrorist organisations. A bench of justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan on December 4 interacted with Nachan, who connected virtually from Tihar Jail in Delhi, and was impressed by the convict's "etiquette" to address the court.
